DESCRIPTION

 

The Department of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified part-time or full-time, temporary, non-tenure track lecturers to teach a range of physics courses, should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of available positions varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Positions may range from 17% to 100% time.

 

We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach/co-teach small, medium, and large size undergraduate lower and/or upper division lecture, seminar and/or laboratory courses in Physics. In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties may include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus), creating and grading exams and homework, and using a learning management system (e.g. bCourses) and/or maintaining a course website.

 

Basic Qualifications (at the time of application): completion of all degree requirements for a Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in Physics or a closely related field, except the dissertation.

 

Additional Qualifications (by the appointment start date): Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in Physics or a closely related field. Demonstrated teaching excellence in appropriate field with undergraduates and, where appropriate, graduate students, along with a record of accomplishment in scholarship, service and professional activity.

 

Preferred qualifications: 2+ years of documented experience in teaching Physics, or coursework in a closely related field, at the college level. The department is specifically interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching.

 

Minimum starting annual full-time (100%) salary rate is based on an academic year salary of $52,099. Salary to be commensurate with experience and education. Some credit will be given to prior college- level teaching experience (not including graduate student or summer sessions teaching).
