The Department of Chemistry and Food Chemistry at the Faculty of Science seeks to fill
the


Chair (W3) of Technical Biochemistry


from 1 October 2018.


The successful candidate shall represent the subject of Technical Biochemistry in teaching
and research. The duties include participation in academic selfadministration. Research
should focus on the elucidation of biosynthetic pathways to provide possible applications,
e.g. for the synthesis of biologically active compounds, biomaterials, or energy production.
The future professor will primarily conduct profound fundamental biochemical research as
basis for the use of sustainable biological systems in industrial biotechnology (“white
biotechnology”), and thus delineate and substantially complement the Chair of Technical
Biochemistry from other biochemically oriented chairs at TU Dresden focusing primarily on
molecular-genetic and biomedical research. In teaching, the future post-holder has to
represent the subject of Technical Biochemistry in all undergraduate and graduate courses of
the department (in German) as well as in subsidiary subjects of other faculties (in German
and English). The interest in actively contributing to complementary programmes (e.g.
Collaborative Research Centers, Research Units) and the ability to cooperate with nonuniversity
research institutes are explicitly encouraged.

 

Candidates must have a strong record of research accomplishments at international level in
the field of Technical Biochemistry. Furthermore, comprehensive teaching experience in the
field of Biochemistry, outstanding educational skills and the ability to obtain external research
funding are expected. The skills for conducting lectures in the English language are
required.Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements according to § 58
of the Act Governing Academic Freedom in Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony
(SächsHSFG).
