Postdoctoral research fellowship on SPIN ARPES characterization at SSLS

Singapore Synchrotron Light Source (SSLS), 5 Research Link,

National University of Singapore, Singapore 117603

Description of position and requirements

The Singapore Synchrotron Light Source (SSLS) is constructing and developing a new state-of-the-art in-situ synchrotron-based characterization facility consisting of a soft X-ray ultraviolet (SUV) beamline, in-situ resonant soft X-ray scattering, in-situ spin & angular resolved photoemission spectroscopy (Spin-ARPES) and pulsed laser deposition molecular beam epitaxy (PLD-MBE) as one integrated system.  The main application area of this new facility is studying the interplay of spin, charge, orbital and lattice degrees of freedom, particularly in two- and low-dimensional materials as well as perovskite materials. We have funding available for a postdoctoral fellowship to work on this project as a beamline scientist, responsible for operating, maintaining and upgrading our new Spin-ARPES system. He/she will have his/her own scientific project and help multiple users

Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized PhD degree, preferably in physics, chemistry, nanotechnology, material science, or equivalent. The candidate should have good physics understanding in spectroscopies, particularly in spin- and angular-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (Spin-ARPES), and surface science.

The following qualities are essential:

  • Ability to work with staff and users as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Willingness to supervise and to train graduate students.

  • Good time management skills.

  • Ability to work in an English-speaking environment.

  • Initial contract of 12 months, renewable for up to a further 24 months

  • Competitive salary

  • Appointment as research fellow or senior research fellow, depending on experience

  • This position will commence in early 2017
