We are looking for two PhD students for 3 – 4 years, one in Process Simulation and one in Process Training Simulation. The student will join our Modeling and Simulation team to work on a research project on dynamic process simulation, which may be utilized in process training simulators and model predictive applications. The project is funded within the EU Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network project Metal Intelligence. Postgraduate courses will be selected from Luleå University (for Process Simulation) or Trinity College Dublin (for Training Simulation) options and selections will be tuned in line with the student's educational background and personal interests.

In this position, you will:

• Work as a member of our Modeling and Simulation team.
• Develop dynamic process simulation platform and unit operations.
• Improve a process training simulator calculation engine and model predictive applications.
• Review existing metallurgical and mineralogical data for case plants.
• Verify and validate the model against different training cases.
• Carry out postgraduate studies at Luleå University/ Trinity College Dublin and enjoy a competitive salary.

To succeed, you will need:

• A Master of Science degree or equivalent completed by July 2017.
• Solid skills in software development, mineral processing, geochemistry, material sciences, or process metallurgy.
• Interest in process modeling, software development, programming, and doctoral studies.
• Self-driven working habits and ability to collaborate with like-minded colleagues in agile teams.
• Written proof of English language proficiency (test certificate, relevant transcript of records, or a confirmation letter).

Please note that, according to EU Horizon 2020 ITN guidelines, the appointed researcher must not have spent more than 12 months in Finland in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment.
