NYUAD Postdoctoral Position - Ocean Biogeochemical Modeling

The successful candidate will join a small team of scientists engaged in a broad effort to understand and model the circulation and biogeochemical dynamics of the Indian Ocean. The center has access to substantial high performance computing resources, and expertise in high-resolution regional biogeochemical modeling. The specific topic of research will depend on the expertise of the candidate; current projects are focused on the dynamics of oxygen depletion and denitrification, regional climate change and sensitivity to anthropogenic perturbations, and contrasts between the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, to name a few. A related goal is to improve parameterizations of eddy fluxes of biogeochemical tracers in coarse resolution general circulation models.


We encourage applications from PhDs in oceanography, geophysics or applied mathematics, with experience in some combination of high-resolution ocean modeling, biogeochemistry, submesoscale dynamics, or eddy/turbulence parameterization. Appointments are offered for two-year periods, contingent upon positive annual reviews; extensions for longer periods are possible in exceptional cases. The annual salary is very competitive, with substantial benefits including allowances for housing, transportation, and annual home visits, in addition to full health insurance and retirement contributions. The position is based in Abu Dhabi, a progressive, westernized rapidly-growing city in the United Arab Emirates, near Dubai. Researchers are also encouraged to spend a few months per year at the Courant Institute in New York City.
