University Lecturer in Earth Sciences University of Cambridge, Department of Earth Sciences

University Lecturer in Earth Sciences

We invite applications from candidates carrying out creative and innovative research, using observational, numerical and/or experimental techniques in geobiology, with a likely focus in the broad areas of evolutionary palaeobiology, earth system evolution, and ancient environments. We seek candidates who show a talent for connecting disciplines, and have an imaginative flair that will set future agendas.

Candidates should have an outstanding record of research in a relevant subject area and will be expected to develop a vigorous research programme at an international level. The successful applicant will contribute to the research activity of the Department (and the University) leading to interaction with academic staff across several areas, to supervise research students and actively to seek external funds to support their research. The Department assists new academic staff as much as possible to establish their research in Cambridge.

The person appointed will be expected to contribute to the Department's teaching at various levels. At elementary level, they may be asked to help with teaching outside their immediate field of specialisation. All of our academic staff take part in undergraduate field teaching. We welcome applications from persons with degrees in Earth Sciences or allied disciplines.

The appointments will be made at an appropriate point on the scale for University Lecturers and will be for a probationary period of five years with appointment to the retiring age thereafter, subject to satisfactory performance. A University Lectureship is broadly equivalent to an tenure track Assistant Professorship in the US.
