The Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, which is part of the Faculty of Engineering and Science, offers studies from bachelor, via masters degree to doctorate. The department has extensive scope and covers the fields of biological chemistry, chemistry and environment, mathematics and physics. The department is responsible for all basic science education at the faculty. As part of the institute, the research center includes the Core - Center for Organizational Research. There are currently 90 employees (including fellows and postdoctors) and 400 students are affiliated with the department.

Work Tasks and
Academic Environment The subject area of the post is biological chemistry.

 

The position is organizationally attached to the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

 

As a associate professor you will mainly teach and guide students at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral level in the field of biological chemistry, research and disseminate research results within relevant research areas at the institute, as well as contribute to the development of cooperation with the workplace. Development of varied and digital learning methods in teaching, innovation and value creation based on results from research and academic development work, is part of the position. The position recommendation provides a detailed description of the subject area and relevant tasks for associate professor.

 

Competence requirements


We apply for a associate with a doctorate in the field of study. Administrative experience, management experience and qualifications in innovation, innovation and commercialization of research are emphasized.

The teaching and learning language is Norwegian and English. If you do not master Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, you must acquire Norwegian knowledge equivalent to level B2 within a period of two years from the date of accession. If required, you will be offered a Norwegian course paid by the university.

Area of expertise

 

The position is currently linked to the research group for biological chemistry responsible for all teaching in biological chemistry at bachelor and master's level at the department.

 

The biotechnology discipline will conduct biochemical, molecular biology, biotechnology research and innovation at an international level. The research covers a broad field of biological chemistry. UiS has health as a strategic focus area, while the faculty and institute has biomedicine in the strategic plan. 

 

The subject area is Biological Chemistry - preferably with expertise in the subject section's activities, Biological Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics. The employee must document qualifications as an independent researcher at the international level related to one or more of the subject sections activities. In addition, sufficient academic proficiency in the subject area must be documented to be able to teach key subjects at bachelor and master's level. The person must also be able to guide assignments at all levels of study.

 

The employee may expect to have administrative practical tasks related to the daily operation of the Institute's study programs and the development of the institute and the research group.

Associate professors who can not document sufficient educational and didactic competence related to higher education may attend university education courses within two years of accession.

 

Associate professor who can not Norwegian or another Scandinavian language acquires Norwegian knowledge equivalent to level B2 (in accordance with the common European Language Framework) within a period of two years from the date of accession.

 

Associate professor can apply for research termination with salary in accordance with the University's Guidelines for the allocation of research term.

 

Associate professor can apply for qualifications to professor in accordance with the Regulations on employment and promotion in teaching and research positions § 2-2.
