DESCRIPTION

 

The Department of Integrative Biology (IB) at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of part- time or full-time, temporary, non-tenure track Lecturer positions to teach IB courses as the need arises. Applicants will be selected from this pool for one calendar year beginning with appointments in the 2018 spring semester. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of IB. Vacancies may arise during Fall, Spring, or Summer. Positions typically start at the beginning of the semester, and appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

 

Teaching Responsibilities


We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach/co-teach small, medium, and large size seminar and/or laboratory courses in the broad subject areas listed below:


• Ecology
• Evolution
• Organismal Biology
• Integrative Human Biology

General Duties


In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, creating and grading quizzes and/or exams, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and using a learning management system (e.g., bCourses at UC Berkeley, Blackboard, Canvas, etc.).

 

Minimum Basic Qualifications (by time of application): The completion of all Ph.D. degree requirements except the dissertation is required at the time of application.

 

Additional Qualifications (by start date): A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in biology or a closely related discipline is required by the time of appointment. Experience teaching a college level course (previously employed as a graduate student instructor, teaching assistant, lecturer, etc.) of the biological sciences is also required.

 

Salary


Minimum starting annual full-time salary rate is $53,402. Salary to be commensurate with experience and education. Some credit will be given to prior college-level teaching experience (not including graduate student or summer sessions teaching).
