DESCRIPTION

 

The Department of Land, Air and Water Resources in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Climate Change Impacts with a preferred emphasis on the nexus between new weather extremes and its application to climate adaptation. This position release is associated with the College Integrated Research and Education (CIRE-6) proposal entitled “Climate Adaptation”. This is an academic year (9-month), tenure track, Assistant Professor position that includes the expectation of mission-oriented research in the California Agricultural Experiment Station.

 

The appointee is expected to establish a competitively funded research program in atmospheric science to address critical or emerging scientific questions and/or societal issues on the impact of new weather extremes due to climate change. The appointee will be responsible for teaching both undergraduate and graduate classes. These could include severe and unusual weather (ATM10), weather analysis and prediction (ATM111), climate change (ATM5, ATM116, and ATM245), climate dynamics (ATM241), and/or new courses on topics related to weather extremes and climate adaptation. The typical teaching expectation is 2.5 courses per year. Participation in departmental and university service is expected.

 

The successful candidate is expected to coordinate with existing departmental colleagues who have expertise in air quality forecasting and analysis, atmospheric chemistry, atmospheric dynamics, biometeorology and micrometeorology, mesoscale and boundary-layer meteorology, cloud physics, large-scale/climate dynamics, and computational geosciences and with other colleagues on campus working on climate adaptation, including five who are being hired as part of this climate adaptation cluster hire.

 

This position will be recruited at the Assistant Professor rank into a tenure-track academic year (9-month) position.
