DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:


The Department of Land, Air and Water Resources offers a temporary Lecturer
position in – Water Law, HYD 150, Principles and issues of California Water Law. Types of water rights, groundwater rights and management, and protection of instream uses. Water projects, role of federal government and federal/state relations. Basic water quality acts, endangered species act, water transfers and current water issues.

 

APPOINTMENT DATE: Service periods are:


Winter Quarter 2018: January 5, 2018 to March 23, 2018

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:


Teach one upper division course in Water Law, HYD 150.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:


Criteria for appointment will be evidence of knowledge and experience in the practice of California Water Law, teaching excellence and knowledge/expertise in subject matter of the course content. A J.D. is required. The primary means of
evaluating teaching ability and quality will be:

 

  1. Demonstrated practice of California water law and recognition in subject matter.
  2. Extent of teaching experience.
  3. Student evaluations (where available). Expertise in subject matter is evaluated based on a candidate’s prior experience, academic training, publications, professional recommendations, and prior teaching (e.g. student ratings). Quality of expertise will be assessed from application material supplied, possible on-site visits, and/or special evaluation services through the TRC. Teaching experience will be evaluated by curriculum vitae and supporting documentation.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:


Temporary lecturers are selected to fill specialized positions that require professional as well as academic expertise.

 

SALARY: Commensurate with experience.

 

COURSE AVAILABILITY: The following course is available for Winter Quarter 2018

 

Water Law, HYD 150

 

The course requires 3 hrs of lecture per week (lectures can be taught in 2 (80 min) or 3 (50 min) sessions per week, with days and time TBD). Student enrollment is by consent of instructor or upper division standing. Typical student enrollment is 50-60 students; students typically have general backgrounds in environmental sciences.
Subject areas to include: Principles and issues of California water law including types of water rights, groundwater rights and management, and protection of instream uses; water projects, role of federal government and federal/state relations; and basic water quality acts, endangered species act, water transfers and current water issues.
