Uppsala University is a broad research university with a strong international position. The task is to conduct research and education of the highest quality and to cooperate in different ways with society. Our most important asset is all the individuals who, with their curiosity and commitment, make Uppsala University one of the country's most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 40,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of 6.5 billion.

At the department of organism biology we conduct education and research on evolution, development and function throughout organisms. For more information see www.iob.uu.se .

The position is based on physiological botany located at Uppsala BioCenter and is part of Linnean Center for Plant Biology ( www.lcpu.se ) and Evolution Biological Center (EBC) ( http://ebc.uu.se/?languageId=3 ).

Project description: Our research focuses on the development of plant roots and its management tissue at genetic and molecular levels (see Müller et al., Plant Physiology, 2016, 170 (2): 956-70; Carlsbecker et al., Nature, 2010, 465 (7296) : 316-21). You will work in a project aimed at understanding how the development of root tissue in the Arabidopsis model plant is influenced by endogenous signals and different world signals. The work includes genetic, molecular biological and, to a certain extent, bioinformatic methods. You will analyze in detail how different cell and tissue types in the root communicate with each other and with the shot, through signals in the form of hormones, small RNAs and other molecules, for coordinated growth and development.

Qualification Requirements: Qualifying to be employed as a postdoctoral degree is a PhD degree in molecular plant biology, plant physiology, developmental biology or adjoining areas, or has a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Mostly, they are concerned with employment as a PhD degree no more than three (3) years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, the doctorate may be older than three years. For special reasons, it refers to unemployment due to illness, parental leave, trust in trade unions etc.

The assessment of applications is based primarily on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research based on scientific skill. Greater importance is attached to the quality of individual scientific work than to the amount of publications.

The applicant will have a great deal of interest in research and a demonstrated capacity to produce work of excellent quality and with international impact. It is a requirement that the applicant has good and documented knowledge in genetics and molecular biology. Good written and oral proficiency in English is a requirement, as well as an ability to express itself well in writing and speaking. Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities such as cooperation and initiative.

Desirable / merit in general: Experience from work with molecular plant biology and Arabidopsis is meritorious, as well as experiences of bioinformatics.

Application: The application must contain CV, publication list, diploma, short description (2-4 pages) of previous research, current research interests and other activities relevant to the service, as well as reference letters including contact details from at least two reference persons.
