Job description

The research group of Prof. Tom Taghon, located in Ghent, Belgium, is looking for a talented and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team. Research in our lab is focused on the functional characterization of the molecular mechanisms that control the early stages of T cell development in human (Van de Walle et al., Journal of Experimental Medicine 2013; Van de Walle et al., Nature Communications 2016). Using human primary hematopoietic stem cells and thymocytes, successful candidates will apply state-of-the-art molecular and cell culture approaches to improve our understanding of the stepwise conversion of hematopoietic precursor cells into human TCRαβ and TCRγδ T cells. Techniques include single cell RNAseq, ChIPseq, ATACseq, in vitro cell cultures for hematopoietic stem cell differentiation (Dolens and Taghon, Nature Methods 2017) and retro- and lentiviral perturbation experiments for gain- and loss-of-function studies, also at the single cell level. You will work together with an international group of postdocs, PhD students and technicians in a new research building on the Ghent University Hospital campus that houses leading research groups in the field of Immunology and Genetics, thereby providing a state-of-the-art and stimulating research environment.

Profile of the candidate

Candidates should have a relevant PhD in the field of immunology, developmental biology, bioinformatics or related. You have excellent knowledge and skills in molecular biology and preferentially also in bioinformatics and RNAseq/ChIPseq data analysis. Expertise in cell culture and flow cytometry is a plus. You are highly motivated and a team player with good reporting and writing skills in English. Applicants should have a competitive publication record in peer-reviewed international journals with at least one paper as a first author.
