Uppsala University is a broad research university with a strong international position. The task is to conduct research and education of the highest quality and to cooperate in different ways with society. Our most important asset is all the individuals who, with their curiosity and commitment, make Uppsala University one of the country's most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 40,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of 6.5 billion.

Start: May 2018, Duration: 1 year

The focus of the project is on the identification of new permanent magnet materials with the help of computer simulations. This project is embedded in a major European network to identify new candidate phases for low-magnitude rare earth magnets using material simulation in different scales. The research project focuses on first principles simulation and analysis of different types of magnetic properties using density's functional methods. The project will be closely linked with other theoretical and experimental groups in Europe and at Uppsala University. The researcher will be placed at the Department of Materials Theory at Uppsala University ( http://www.physics.uu.se/research/materials-theory/ . Uppsala is the 4th largest city in Sweden and is only northeast of Stockholm 70 km northeast.

Profile: The applicant is expected to have a deep knowledge in quantum mechanics, solid state physics and materials science (preferably focusing on magnetism). A doctorate in physics, chemistry or materials science is recommended. Furthermore, the applicant should be familiar with ab initio quantum methods and codes such as VASP and all electron codes such as SPRKKR. The ability to work in a team and good communication skills is expected.

Application documents: CV, short letter of motivation (max one page), list of publications, doctoral certificate, 2 references (name and contact details)
