Uppsala University is a broad research university with a strong international position. The task is to conduct research and education of the highest quality and to cooperate in different ways with society. Our most important asset is all the individuals who, with their curiosity and commitment, make Uppsala University one of the country's most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 40,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of 6.5 billion.

Department of Physics and Astronomy, Department of Materials Theory. A doctoral dissertation with access 2018-08-01 or by appointment.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy is Uppsala University's second largest institution, with over 350 employees, divided into 11 departments. The Department of Physics and Astronomy is located in the Ångström Laboratory in Uppsala. Website: http://www.physics.uu.se

Project description:We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious PhD student for theoretical work on dynamic and non-equilibrium properties in superconducting systems. The overall goal of the PhD student project is to find new and measurable signatures of exaggeration superconductivity, which is a very unique superconductive state that is odd in the time variable, or equivalent frequency domain, which is completely opposite to the usual behavior of superconductivity. Due to its time dependence, exequence superconductivity is a dynamic order and the project aims to explicitly investigate the resulting dynamic and non-equilibrium properties in several different systems. Examples range from fluctuations and noise in molecular superconducting transitions to inelastic dispersion in solid superconductors. The project requires extensive analytical calculations with advanced multi-particle methods, often in combination with numerical work. Doctoral student projects are part of a larger project focusing on new materials and mechanisms for extraction superconductivity funded by the European Research Council (ERC).

Research Environment: The Department of Materials Theory at Uppsala University offers a world-class environment theory for materials theory with interests ranging from highly correlated and topological materials to atomic spin simulations and first-principle calculations of many different types of functional materials. The department currently has approximately 90 active researchers, of which approximately one third are PhD students. The PhD student project belongs to a research group led by Professor Annica Black-Schaffer and currently consists of four PhD students and five postdoctoral students and will be in close collaboration with Professor Jonas Fransson.

Employment: The PhD student's appointment is limited to four years full-time studies. The holders shall mainly devote themselves to their own postgraduate studies, ie research and course work. Other duties at the department relating to teaching and administrative work may be included in the framework of the employment (max 20%), which extends the employment corresponding time. More information is available on the institution's website www.physics.uu.se .

Application: The applicant should have a Master's degree or Master of Science degree in Physics, but a strong background in the theory of condensed matter or multi-particle theory. Experience of superconductivity, transport calculations, or non-equilibrium physics is an advantageous but not necessary. Very good knowledge of English, speaking both in writing, is a requirement. The application must contain a personal letter detailing the applicant's scientific interests and motivation to become a PhD student. The application must also contain a CV and copies of the relevant grades. Please also attach a copy of master's thesis (completed or draft). Two recommendation letters should also be included in the application.

Provisions for PhD students are found in the Higher Education Ordinance 5 ch §§1-7 and in the university's rules and guidelines http://regler.uu.se/ .

Uppsala University values the qualities that even gender distribution and diversity add to the business. We therefore look forward to searching for all sexes and with different birth background, functionality and life experience.
