NUIG 017-18, Postdoctoral Researcher - Supramolecular Chemistry with Proteins, School of Chemistry

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the laboratory of Professor Peter Crowley at the School of Chemistry, National University of Ireland, Galway. This one year position, funded by Science Foundation Ireland, is available immediately. The project end date is 31st May 2019.

 

The Crowley laboratory is investigating protein assembly by supramolecular building blocks. For examples, see Rennie et al. Angew. Chem. 2017, McGovern et al. Chem. Sci. 2015 and McGovern et al. Nature Chemistry 2012.

 

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be a recent PhD graduate with a strong background in protein biophysics and / or structural biology. You will work in a multidisciplinary team on controlled protein assembly.

 

Duties:

To conduct high-quality protein science in a collaborative environment

To characterize protein assemblies by using biophysical / structural biology methods

To manage the project, data collection / interpretation, manuscript preparation and publication

To participate in international meetings / conferences and data collection trips

To contribute to running the laboratory, including student supervision and training

 

Qualifications / Skills required:

Applicants must have a BSc in chemistry, biochemistry or related discipline and a PhD in protein science (e.g. structural biology, biophysics). The ideal candidate will be experienced in at least two of the following: protein purification, X-ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, SAXS, ITC, SEC-MALS or similar.

 

Applicants will have at least one first author publication in an internationally-recognized journal. Candidates should have strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Desirable criteria include experience in student supervision and ambition for a career in research.

 

Salary: €38,750 - €45,930 per annum           

Start date: Position is available immediately
