Job description

As part of a research collaboration between Janssen (Dr. JW Thuring and Dr. L. Meerpoel), and the Organic Synthesis research team at UGent (Prof. Dr. J Winne; http://www.OS.ugent.be), we announce the availability of a full time postdoctoral position.

 

As an employee of the department of Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry at Ghent University (http://www.orgchem.ugent.be), you will develop and subsequently apply new stereoselective methods for the synthesis of carbocyclic compounds of interest. Your research is expected to contribute to the identification of novel molecular entities for biological evaluation in the fields of Oncology and Infectious Diseases. You will interact with computational chemists to design novel molecules of interest. While the main stay will be at UGent, there is the opportunity for a flexible internship at Janssen, for a minimum period of 6 months.

 

Ghent University offers a one-year contract, renewable for a maximum of one additional year. The selected candidate is expected to begin in July-August 2018, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Profile of the candidate

  • The ideal candidate for this position will have a PhD in organic chemistry with experience in transition metal-catalyzed reactions, cycloadditions and/or natural compound synthesis, purification techniques and structural characterization of organic molecules.

  • You have a creative mind and are highly motivated to perform chemical reactions in the lab.

  • The ability to work in a team as well as good communication skills and a good mastery of English as the preferred working language is essential.
