Job summary

We are looking for a Research Associate to join Professor Iain McCulloch's research group at Imperial College London to investigate Semiconducting Polymer Characterisation. 



You will lead the characterization group in the measurement of optical and electrical properties of new semiconducting polymers and small molecules, and set up measurement of organic electrochemical transistor devices. You will also carry out fabrication and characterization of organic solar cells, and interface with the Durrant group on photocatalysis measurements.

 

Duties and responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities for the post include:

  • Take initiative in the planning and execution of research, and in the development of collaborations with other groups at Imperial, and with external collaborators
  • Direct the work of small research teams, including undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Identify and develop suitable techniques for the collection and analysis of data
  • Conduct data analysis
  • Ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
  • Write reports for submission to research sponsors
  • Prepare material for presentation in oral and poster formats
  • Present findings to colleagues and at conferences
  • Draft publications and prepare them for submission to refereed journals
  • Contribute to writing research grant bids and patent applications
  • Provide guidance to staff and students

 

Essential requirements

The following are essential requirements for this role:

  • A PhD in Materials, Physics or Chemistry (or equivalent qualification)
  • Experience in organic electronic semiconducting polymers for solar cell and transistor applications
  • Demonstrated ability to draft high quality manuscripts
  • Understanding of state of the art measurement techniques for organic electronic and solar cell devices
  • Experience in managing multi-partner interdisciplinary projects

 

Further information

This post is fixed term for up to 12 months initially.

 

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £32,380 - £34,040 per annum.
