The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) is established under the Solomon Islands National University Act 2012 and became effective as of January 1st 2013, replacing the former Solomon Islands College of Higher Education (SICHE). By global standards, this is a very young University in a developing-country context, nevertheless, with a lot of aspirations.

A transition plan was implemented from 2013 to December 31st 2015. A review was made and a five year strategic plan was developed. The plan aspires to consolidate the development of the University, as a growing Institution for Higher Learning. SINU desires to build on and continuously improve with aspirational goals such as developing new attractive and relevant quality degree programs, providing valuable teaching and learning experiences and support for students and staff. Three years on as a University, SINU developed eight new Bachelor programs, established a Research department and embarking on various infrastructure projects. SINU on average enrolled 4,500 students annually and it is an employer to more than 300 staff across its four beautiful campuses.
