The Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry and the Multidisciplinary Research Center NB-Photonics (Center for Nano and Biophotonics) wish to strengthen their research activities in the field of ultrasound spectroscopy and microscopy. Advanced spectroscopic and microscopic characterization is an essential link to connect research into new optical materials with the development of new optical components. Within the Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry and the Center for Nano and Biophotonics, there is ample expertise in the development and application of optical materials, for example in the case of quantum materials, 2D materials or thin films for use in lighting and display applications, or as active material Lasers and photo detectors, 1-photon radiators or integrated light sources.


Academic education


The inclusion of this post implies the privilege of practicing exclusively for research activities with a limited education assignment of maximum 8 ECTS per semester, averaged over 3 years, over a period of 5 years. Within this assignment you will provide quality education at the level of bachelor and master students, in the field of electromagnetism, optical materials or optical characterization by spectroscopy and microscopy. The education will be assessed on currentity, integration into the education and interaction with the students. Furthermore, you are a promoter or co-supervisor of bachelor projects and master theses. After 5 years, the completion of the assignment of this post may be amended by the university board as regards the time spent on education, research and scientific services.




You are building research on an international competitive level. We expect you to further consolidate and expand your expertise in ultrasonic optical spectroscopy and microscopy. Starting from existing arrangements and collaborations within the Inorganic and Physical Chemistry department and the Center for Nano and Biophotonics, you are looking for new collaborations and aiming for the development of innovative and relevant spectroscopic and microscopic methods to answer research questions. You are looking for resources to realize projects and to recruit PhD, and guide them in their research.


Academic services


You participate in the internal and external services of the Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry and the Center for Nano and Biophotonics. This includes the expansion of spectroscopic arrangements as an open facility and actively contributing to science communication. This also means that you will be open throughout your career to include some administrative tasks or administrative functions.




Knowledge / Experience

  • You have already done high-level scientific research in ultrafast optical spectroscopy / microscopy, as evidenced by publications in quality scientific journals and peer review books;

  • You have experience in leading research and / or supervising doctorates;

  • You are able to initiate and supervise scientific research and collect the necessary funds for this purpose;

  • You have didactic skills aimed at developing and realizing academic skills at university students;


Stretch to recommendation:

  • International mobility, through research stays in research institutions external to the institution with the highest academic degree;

  • Experience in conducting research projects based on national and internationally acquired funds;

  • Positively evaluated experience with provisioned and / or organized education at academic level;

  • Educational professionalization.

Admission Conditions

  • You are in possession of a doctor's degree in doctoral dissertation. When assessing a foreign (non-EU) diploma, an equivalence certificate may still be requested from NARIC;

  • You have at least two years postdoctoral experience on date of entry into employment.




Depending on the specific profile of the selected candidate, the degree of lecturer (tenure track), principal lecturer, professor or professor is awarded. This is decided by the University Board on the recommendation of the Faculty Board.

We offer you a temporary employment contract in a Tenure Track System for a term of five years. Upon a favorable assessment by the university board, the mandate will be converted into a permanent appointment in the degree of principal lecturer.


If you already have a position as a ZAP member or equivalent in another university or research institution, you can be appointed immediately in the teacher's degree, without prejudice to the possibility offered for a temporary appointment in Article V.28 of The Codex Higher Education.

Candidates are asked to further explain their 5 academic achievements with the most impact. For example, the candidate can present, in addition to scientific publications, merit as knowledge transfer through scientific fulfillment, social valorisation, public awareness, seminars or presentations at conferences. These competences are taken into account in the assessment of candidates.


The assessment of the requested international mobility is broad and is partly due to gender perspective, in addition to long-term stays abroad, other forms of internationalization are also charged.  


Pregnancy leave, long-term sick leave, parental leave, care leave or other absenteeism will be charged when assessing the available time for the realization of scientific output.
