General Information

The Department of Geology and Geological Engineering has 11 professors including 2 Research Chair and 2 Chairholders in Teaching Leadership. It offers two undergraduate programs, one in geological engineering and one in geology, as well as master's and doctoral programs in earth sciences. The department hosts 150 undergraduate students and 50 graduate students.


The position of Professor is associated with the NSERC-Agnico Eagle Industrial Research Chair in Mineral Exploration, whose primary objective is to develop mineral exploration methods based on the physical and chemical properties of indicator minerals. Mineral exploration is one of the themes of the Center for Research on Geology and Mineral Resource Engineering (E4m). Responsible development of natural resources is one of the strategic thrusts of the University's Research Development Plan.

Job Description


  • Career teacher position leading to tenure;
  • Contribute to the research activities of the Chair;
  • Teaching courses of 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles in gyneology and metallogeny;
  • Develop subsidized research activities in the fields of mineral exploration, gypsy and metallogeny and supervise graduate students in this field;
  • Participate in the academic and administrative activities of the department.


Selection criteria

The candidate must possess a solid expertise in earth sciences, in the field of metallogeny and mineral exploration. Expertise in mineral chemistry, particularly in situ methods, is desirable. In addition, he / she must:

  • hold a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in geology, geological engineering, or related field, and a Ph.D.
  • have developed and conducted a high-level, funded research program or demonstrate its potential;
  • demonstrate the ability to collaborate with and contribute to relevant team members, networks or research centers;
  • Demonstrate strong interest and ability to use and develop innovative teaching methods and continuing education;
  • demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate the results and relevance of their research;
  • demonstrate the ability to provide quality education in the field;
  • have mastery of the French language, both orally and in writing, or undertake to do so within one year;
  • be a member of the Ordre des géologues du Québec or the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec. Failing this, the candidate must file a plan in which he / she undertakes to fulfill this obligation within a period which can not exceed the date of renewal of the contract leading to the tenure.
