Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology (SMN) is an interdisciplinary focus field for material and energy research at the University of Oslo. SMN has focused on basic research in renewable energy and environmentally friendly use of fossil energy sources. The center consists of research groups from the Department of Physics (Fi) and Chemistry (Ki), has about 100 employees from around the world and manages more than 80 projects funded by the EU, the RCN and others.


Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Solid-State Electrochemistry


Position as Postdoctoral Research Fellowship available at Department of Chemistry/Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology (SMN).


The fellowship period is for 2 years. Within the framework of the position duties may be assigned. Starting date no later than 15.12.2017. No one can be appointed for more than one specified period at the same institution.


Job description/ Project description:


We seek a highly motivated researcher with a PhD and appropriate experience to take on collaborative research on composite oxide-molten salt membranes for novel electrochemical energy conversion technologies. This is an M-ERA NET project, “Novel molten carbonate/ceramic composite materials for sustainable energy technologies with CO2 capture and utilization (MOCO3)", in collaboration with SINTEF in Oslo as well as partners in Portugal and Poland.




The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates will be selected in accordance with this, expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.


The candidate must have a PhD or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in materials chemistry with emphasis on high-temperature and/or solid-state electrochemistry.


Experience with synthesis, fabrication, and characterization of ceramic materials and composites as well as electrochemical cells, scanning electron microscopy, and electrochemical methods like impedance spectroscopy and DC methods is required.


The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.

Position code 1352, Salary: NOK 490 900– 569 00 per year, depending on qualifications and seniority.
