The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN) at the University of Washington (UW) is seeing a Postdoctoral Research Associate (job class code 0148) to address earthquake early warning and seismic hazards.
The individual will join an interdisciplinary team that is evaluating seismic hazards associated with the Cascadia Subduction Zone, and is implementing earthquake early warning (EEW) in the Pacific Northwest. The researcher will spend at least 50% of their time on EEW activities; the remaining time can be used to explore new collaborations with UW researchers. We are particularly looking for individuals who are familiar with EEW algorithms. Additional relevant skillsets and expertise include, but are not limited to, fault and deformation modeling, real-time high-rate GPS, strong-motion seismology, source seismology and rupture mechanics, waveform modeling, tsunamigenic earthquakes, visualization, and scientific programming. The position will be affiliated with the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network ( and the department of Earth and Space Sciences ( A Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in geophysics or related field is required at the time of appointment. While the successful candidate will primarily be engaged in research, all University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. This is a 12-month, full-time (100% FTE) appointment, renewable for a second year, subject to approval, satisfactory performance, and availability of funding. The position offers salary commensurate with experience and excellent benefits. The start date of the position is flexible; winter or spring 2017 is preferred.
