Job Description

Faculty of Science, Department of Kinesiology

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Neuromechanics

The Department of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Science at McMaster University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor in the area of Neuromechanics.

This position may be of interest to those with relevant training in Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Neuroscience and Rehabilitation, or other fields in which the fundamental control of human movement is the primary research focus. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from individuals whose training and interests would enable them to conduct basic and applied research involving healthy individuals and those with conditions that impair normal function. Applicants whose track-record suggests the ability to bridge traditional disciplinary boundaries and facilitate studies of human health across the lifespan will be viewed favorably.

Candidates will have a completed PhD at the time of application and demonstrated excellence in research and teaching. A strong record of peer-reviewed publications is required. Preference will be given to candidates who show evidence of, or the potential to initiate and maintain, an externally-funded independent research program. Postdoctoral training is advantageous, as is evidence of pedagogical innovation or a commitment to development as an educator. Duties will include teaching and research supervision at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Kinesiology currently has 16.5 full-time faculty members and approximately 800 full-time undergraduate and 50 graduate students. We offer an Honours B.Sc. Kinesiology degree as well as M.Sc. and PhD. degrees. For more information please see our website: www.science.mcmaster.ca/kinesiology.

Applications must consist of a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a research dossier that includes a statement of research interests, a research plan and three representative publications, and a teaching dossier that includes a teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching experience and effectiveness. Academic reference letters are not required at the time of applications, but applicants should provide the names of three (3) referees who may be subsequently contacted.

Complete applications must be made online at www.workingatmcmaster.ca/careers to the attention of Dr. Martin Gibala, Chair, Department of Kinesiology, McMaster University, 1280 Main Street West, Hamilton, Ontario, L8S 4K1.

The anticipated start date of the appointment is July 1, 2018. Complete applications that are received by February 1, 2018 will receive full consideration. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled. All applicants will receive confirmation of receipt of their application. However, only short-listed applicants will be contacted for interviews.

To comply with the Government of Canada’s reporting requirements, the University is obliged to gather information about applicants’ status as either Permanent Residents of Canada or Canadian citizens. Applicants need not identify their country of origin or current citizenship; however, all applications must include one of the following statements:

Yes, I am a citizen or permanent resident of Canada
No, I am not a citizen or permanent resident of Canada
