Responsibilities

Miscleavages of the Alzheimer Precursor Protein by the intramembrane protease gamma-secretase are linked to Alzheimer’s Disease. Gamma-secretase modulators (GSMs) have been developed for treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease, but failed in clinical trials. Because gamma-secretase is now also an emerging target for cancer, it is important to understand more about these type of compounds. The goal of this project, funded by the Foundation Alzheimer Research, is to understand how GSMs bind to their target. To  this end, we will apply a combination of synthetic chemistry, tandem massspectrometry-based proteomics and biochemistry. The position is available from February 1st, 2018, and application will be considered immediately until the position is filled.

Profile

  • PhD degree
  • Background in tandem mass spectrometry together with knowledge and/or practical skills in synthetic organic chemistry
  • Ambitious, motivated, creative and practically skillful
  • Experience with cellculture and biochemistry experiments is a plus
