The Department of Geosciences at Uppsala University is Sweden's largest and largest institution of its kind with approximately 200 employees and departments for geophysics, geology, paleontology, hydrology, meteorology and natural resource education. Our research extends from the core of the earth to the atmosphere, from microscopic minerals and fossils to how mountains and oceans are formed, from the time of the birth of the earth to today. We map the development of earth and life for several billion years and study the relationship between the atmosphere and the garden with regard to climate change and sustainable development. geophysics Departmentis Sweden's leading research unit in Solid Earth Physics, and today consists of about 50 employees, of which about 15 are PhD students and a dozen are junior employees with doctorate degrees. The unit operates the Swedish national seismic network, which today comprises about 70 permanent broadband stations. The unit also has extensive equipment for active and passive studies with seismic and electromagnetic methods. Current research targets include induced seismicity related to mines and underground constructions, geothermal and injection of liquids, such as carbon dioxide, at greater depths. Other important areas include the development of innovative processing tools for seismic reflection data, multidimensional inverse methods for seismic tomography and electromagnetic data, integrated inversion of different types of data, as well as numerical modeling. The geophysics unit of the Department of Geosciences, Uppsala University, intends to hire a new junior employee for a two-year postdoctoral contract. Applications from researchers in all areas of Solid Earth physics are welcomed.


Research profile and job description: 

postdoctor is responsible for research. The postdoctoral research focus is defined in consultation between the geophysics unit and the candidate. Information on ongoing research in the geophysics unit has been mentioned above.


Qualification requirements:

The applicant must have a doctorate in geophysics or equivalent. Doctoral degrees must have been issued no later than the beginning of the employment and no more than three years before the end of the application period, but may be older if there are special reasons. These reasons may be periods of eg sick leave or parental leave etc., deducted from the three-year period.

The applicant should be able to submit recommendation letters and contact information for the reference persons should be included in the application.
