This Research Associate position is in the theoretical particle physics group of Professor A. Penin at the Department of Physics of the University of Alberta. The main objective of the project is the high precision calculation in a wide class of quantum field theory problems which are of primary phenomenological importance for current and future experiments.


Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Carrying out high-level, complex research activities in theoretical particle physics
  • Assisting in the writing of research papers, preparation of presentations and publications
  • Presenting research results at seminars and scientific conferences
  • Assisting with preparation of research grant applications and contract proposals
  • Supervising students
  • Maintaining a computer cluster


The successful candidate will have:

  • PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics
  • Several years of postdoctoral research experience
  • Strong background in high-order perturbative calculations in particle physics
  • Command of modern techniques including Laporta reduction algorithm, the differential equation and Mellin-Barns methods, expansion by regions and effective field theory approach
  • High level of programming abilities, particularly experience in large-scale algebraic calculations


In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement, this part-time (0.86 FTE) position has a term length of 12 months starting from October 1, 2018, with the possibility of extension, and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at and an annual salary range of $58,210 to $72,770; salary will be pro-rated to reflect FTE.
