Junior professorship (W1) with tenure track for geomorphology and recent morphodynamics


Fulltime position, start date: 01.04.2019


to occupy. 

This professorship is particularly suitable for highly qualified junior researchers. 

The candidate should have a research focus in the field-based acquisition and model-based analysis of recent and subversive morphodynamic processes of the Earth's surface. An expertise in the field of sediment changes and sedimentary cascades, recent landslide dynamics or flow and flow dynamics is desired. If possible, these approaches should be integrated into socially relevant concepts such as risk assessment. As a real laboratory could serve the regional examples on the Rhine and its tribute. The use of modern sensor and computer-based methods is expected.

In teaching basic physical-geographical events (lectures, seminars, or modules, field exercises, field trips, laboratory) on geomorphology and soil geography or biogeography including associated field methods should be offered. Another regional focus, possibly outside Europe, with broad thematic, content and methodological coverage is desired. 

Further tasks include coordination activities in research and teaching, participation in academic self-administration and participation in further degree programs and at the graduate school of the faculty.
We are looking for a personality who is excellently qualified in the mentioned areas and who has abilities for interdisciplinary cooperation, successful project management and convincing teaching. The establishment of an active, nationally and internationally networked working group is expected. The willingness to actively seek external funding from public and private donors as well as participation in interfaculty activities of the university is required. 

Admission requirements for junior professors are, in addition to the general employment law requirements, a university degree, pedagogical aptitude, a special qualification for scientific work, which is proven by the outstanding quality of a doctorate.

The position is initially limited to four years. After a successful interim evaluation, it can be extended for a further two years to a total of six years. After a successful interim evaluation, the tenure procedure is initiated after W3. 
The tenure procedures are regulated in the articles of association and quality assurance concept for junior professorships with and without tenure track and coordinated with the Ministry of Science. The prerequisite for the granting of tenure and the subsequent transfer to a W3 professorship is (1) the fulfillment of the requirements in accordance with the statute and quality assurance concept and (2) the fulfillment of the subject-specific criteria defined by the Faculty of the Environment and Natural Resources.
