Postdoctoral Research Assistant for the BESIII Experiment

Particle Physics, Denys Wilkinson Building, Keble Road, Oxford

Grade 7: £31,604 – £38,833 p.a.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Particle Physics. The full-time post is available for a fixed-term duration of 3 years with possibility of extension. The post is based in Oxford.

Charm strong phase parameters can form crucial inputs for a variety of subsequent work, most notably that of CPV studies in beauty and charm decays. This project deals with the measurement of these parameters using data from the BESIII experiment. The successful candidate will analyse data from the BESIII and measure charm strong phase parameters in a variety of decay modes. They will contribute to the development of BESIII analysis software tools. They will collaborate with the potential users of the charm strong phase information to ensure optimal use. There is the potential to analyse LHCb upgrade data to determine gamma with inputs measured at BESIII.

Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining a doctorate in physics or a related field and ideally a strong background in heavy flavour physics. Previous experience of the BESIII experiment will be an advantage. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, plan and execute research activities, and work in a team.

The post is based in Oxford, with visits to IHEP when necessary. When based in Oxford, teaching duties of up to three hours per week during University term time may be required.
