Postdoctoral Research Assistant for the LHCb Experiment

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Particle Physics. The full-time post is available for a fixed-term duration of 3 years, with the possibility of extension.

 

Significant advances in the precision of CP observables could lead to the detection of the effects of physics beyond the standard model. Such advances are possible in the next 5 years with the data from the LHCb experiment and the LHCb upgraded experiment. This project will measure a variety of CP observables leading to an improved determination of the CKM angle gamma. The successful candidate will analyse data from the LHCb and LHCb upgrade experiment to measure the CKM angle gamma, using the B to Dh family of decays. They will also contribute to defining the ideal charm strong phase inputs required for these analyses. In addition to data analysis the successful candidate will contribute to efforts to ensure the quality of the LHCb upgrade data.

 

Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining a doctorate in physics or a related field and ideally a strong background in heavy flavour physics. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, plan and execute research activities, and work in a team.

 

The post is based in Oxford, with visits to CERN when necessary. When based in Oxford, teaching duties of up to three hours per week during University term time may be required.
