Research Associate (Fixed Term)


The Cantab Capital Institute for the Mathematics of Information seeks a post-doctoral Research Associate position to work at the intersection of mathematical optimization and quantum information theory.


Applicants should have (or be close to completing) a PhD with a strong academic track record in the area of optimization and/or quantum information theory, prior to their appointment, and will have demonstrated a capacity to produce world-class research.. The applicant should be familiar with convex optimization and semidefinite programming, and preference will be given to candidates with experience in quantum information theory. Excellent presentation and communication skills are essential.


Duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects. The role holder will be expected to plan and manage their own research and administration, with guidance if required, and to assist in the preparation of proposals and applications to external bodies. Applicants must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. They may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to the research area. An allowance for research expenses is included in this position.
