Postdoctoral Researcher, Soft Materials Modelling

The Soft Materials Modelling Group at Aalto University, Finland, is looking for a postdoctoral researcher in modelling of charged polymers and biomacromolecules

Synthetic and biological macromolecules form versatile, responsive materials that have a variety applications ranging from biological and energy systems to smart surfaces, sensors, and drug delivery. We are looking for a person who is able to drive forward and develop the computational modelling of these charged macromolecular systems. The person will employ computational modelling at multiple length scales and develop new approaches to molecular modelling of biopolymer and polyelectrolyte solutions in tight collaboration with experimentalists.

A study background and doctorate degree in computational chemistry, physics, materials science, or related field, good publication history, and a strong interest in macromolecule modelling and understanding macromolecular systems are required. Research background can cover, for example, modelling of polymers, surfactant systems, or biomolecules, especially in solvent. The work is computational and theoretical: the simulations make use of linux/unix based high performance computing environments (HPC computing). The candidate should have demonstrated expertise in molecular dynamics or Monte Carlo simulations at atomistic and coarse-grained detail, and dissemination of scientific results, and be well versed in statistical mechanics and data handling. The candidate must have good oral and written command of English.

Salary is according to the policies of Aalto University. Post-doctoral appointment is initially for 1 year with a possibility of continuation. Additional information is available from Maria Sammalkorpi (firstname.lastname@aalto.fi) and the group web page (see below).

Aalto University has six schools with nearly 20 000 students and more than 400 professors. Our campuses are located in Espoo and Helsinki, Finland. Helsinki is the lively, dynamic capital of Finland with active international social scene, good opportunities for culture or outdoor activities, and reputedly high quality of living in general. • A letter of motivation

  • A complete curriculum vitae describing education and employment history, as well as, list of scientific publications

  • Contact details of at least 2 possible reference letter writers

Evaluation of the applications will start immediately.
