The Department of Chemistry at Imperial College London is at an exciting time in its history. Already a world-leading Department, from mid-2018 we will occupy state-of-the art new research facilities at Imperial’s new White City Campus. 



A Research Associate Position in hybrid perovskite materials and solar cells within an EPSRC-funded project titled “Towards Self-scrubbing Stable and Scalable Perovskite Solar Cells” is available. The Research Associate will prepare and study new state-of-the-art hybrid perovskites and investigate the parameters influencing perovskite solar cell performance and stability. They will use techniques such as steady state and time resolved optical spectroscopy to also investigate charge separation / recombination in new 2D/3D perovskites and novel architectures that are able to trap Pb in the event of water ingress into the solar cells. The project will involve collaboration with a consortium at Imperial College London, Manchester, Bath. You should have a PhD in chemistry, physics or materials science, a background in hybrid perovskite chemistry, hybrid inorganic–organic composites, expertise in transient optical spectroscopy, experience with solar cell fabrication and characterization, a strong publication record and the ability to write research papers. The ability to work within a mutli-disciplinary research group will also be important. The position will be supervised by Dr Saif Haque (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/people/s.a.haque).

 

Duties and responsibilities

• Preparation of hybrid perovskite materials and thin films 
• Studying photo-induced charge transfer processes in perovskite films and devices 
• Fabricate and characterize solar cells
• Elucidating of design rules that can be used to guide the development of new solar cell materials and devices compatible with high power conversion efficiency and enhanced stability. 
• To take initiatives in the planning of research 
• To direct the work of small research teams including undergraduate and postgraduate students 
• To identify and develop suitable techniques, and apparatus, for the collection and analysis of data 
• To conduct data analysis 
• To ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times 
• To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings

 

Essential requirements


    • To hold a PhD in Chemistry, or a closely related subject (e.g physics or equivalent)


    • Experience in preparation of hybrid perovskite materials and thin films


    • Expertise in transient optical spectroscopy


    • Experience in the fabrication of hybrid inorganic – organic solar cells


    • Expertise in optoelectronic characterization of hybrid solar cells


    • Knowledge of Hybrid perovskite chemistry and physics


    • Knowledge of Photovoltaic devices

 

Further information

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £32,380 - £34,040 per annum.
