INL is seeking for talented and motivated Junior Fellow to support an interesting research & innovation project led by Tintas Lacca S.A. paint manufacturer. The main goal of the project is to provide innovative solutions for interior and exterior coatings for wood and wood-based materials. The work will be conducted at the Nanochemistry Research Group of the Micro and Nanofabrication Department at the INL under the guidance of Dr. Juliana Sousa.

Job Role & Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate for this position will contribute to the design, synthesis, development, and testing of nanomaterial-containing formulations for innovative wood coatings. In this role, the successful candidate is expected to follow the trends in nanomaterials, coatings and additives.

Job Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Master Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Science, or Formulation Science;
  • Up to 5 years of experience in the field;
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with nanomaterials;
  • Experience in characterization of the nanomaterials;
  • Experience in polymer chemistry is a plus;
  • Experience in formulations with a preference for the coatings industry plus;
  • Strong literature and patent searching skills;
  • Knowledge of lab safety;
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 policies and guidelines plus.

Personal Skills

  • Strong drive to carry out research in the proposed topic;
  • Solid motivation to work both independently and as part of a team in an interdisciplinary project;
  • Good track record of disseminating research results.


English is the working language of INL. Therefore, excellent communication skills in English are required.
