Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Laser-driven Plasma Accelerators (2 posts)
The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 2 years, with the possibility of extension.
This project will focus on developing new approaches for driving high-energy plasma accelerators at high pulse repetition rates by using trains of laser pulses to drive plasma wakefields.
The successful candidates will undertake research into the underlying physics and operation of multi-pulse laser wakefield accelerators (MP-LWFAs) and hydrodynamic optical-field-ionized (HOFI) plasma channels. Candidates will develop, lead and analyse results of experiments based at Oxford and other research facilities. Duties will include write-up of results for publication and presentation at international events, supervision of graduate and undergraduate students, supporting the development and commissioning of new high-power laser facilities in Oxford and day-to day support within the research group.
Applicants should hold a PhD in plasma physics or high-power femtosecond laser science along with experience of working with Class 4 laser systems or particle-in-cell codes.
Previous experience in the field of plasma accelerators, particle-in-cell or fluid codes will be an advantage. Candidates are expected to demonstrate experience of presenting scientific results and the ability to manage own academic research. The postholder will have the opportunity to teach.
