Postdoctoral position in quantitative seismic interpretation applied to geothermal reservoirs
The Department of Geoscience at Aarhus University invites application for a postdoctoral position in quantitative seismic interpretation to start as soon as possible. Candidates are required to hold a PhD degree in geophysics, geoscience, applied physics or related fields. It is a one-year position with the possibility of extension, when new project funding becomes available.
The candidate shall apply, develop and test quantitative seismic interpretation methodologies for extracting pre-drilling information of geothermal sedimentary reservoirs in terms of detailed lithological characteristics and rock physics.
Advanced quantitative seismic reflection methodologies, developed and applied by the hydrocarbon industry, have the potential of providing information on porosity and production capacity of deep reservoirs. These methods are to be applied to and further developed towards the challenges related to onshore geothermal reservoirs with special emphasis on sandstone reservoir environments present in the Danish sedimentary basins. Existing high quality 3D and 2D seismic data and well data are available for testing of methodologies.
The candidate will be part of a strong group of geoscientist and students at the Department of Geoscience working with seismic processing, modelling and interpretation as well as thermal modelling of geothermal reservoirs. The group holds state-of-the-art seismic facilities and software such as Promax, Petrel, Paleoscan and OpendTect. The project is to be carried out in close cooperation with The Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) and industrial partners.
The applicant is expected to have significant experience in working with reflection seismic data from sedimentary environments. He or she and must have high numerical and analytical skills in order to carry out seismic modelling and quantitative interpretation using modern seismic software systems. Research results are to be developed to the level required for publication in high standard peer reviewed international journals.
