Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Millimetre and Submillimetre SIS Mixers

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Millimetre and Sub-Millimetre SIS Mixers. The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 2 years, with the possibility of extension.

 

This project will focus on developing SIS mixers for millimetre and sub-millimetre astronomy. The successful candidate will design SIS mixers operating at THz and millimetre wavelengths using electromagnetic software and quantum detection software; Test THz mixers and analyse their performance using available cryogenic systems; Write codes and assemble experimental setups to perform experiments and data analysis. The postholder will have the opportunity to teach.

 

Applicants should possess, or be close to completion of a PhD in physics or a related field and ideally have a strong background in the design and testing of superconducting detectors for astronomical receivers. Previous experience in the field of SIS mixers is an advantage. Candidates are expected to work independently on research projects, work well in collaboration with researchers and technicians in the group and write scientific papers.
