DESCRIPTION The School of Physical Sciences in partnership with the Beckman Laser Institute and Medical Clinic (BLIMC) at the University of California, Irvine is seeking applicants for tenured and tenure-track faculty positions with an expected start date of July 1, 2019. Assistant Professor candidates are preferred but qualified applicants at other levels will be considered. The ideal candidate should have research expertise in the development of advanced optics and photonics technologies and their applications to both fundamental science, medicine and industry.
This position falls under the UC Irvine's high impact program the "Convergence Optical Sciences Initiative (COSI)". COSI is a campus priority area that cuts across the fields of Physical Science, Engineering, Biology and Medicine. Activities are expected to lead to the development of advanced light sources and related optics, photonics and computational technologies that drive new systems, devices, and discoveries. This specific position will be appointed in Physical Sciences with opportunities for joint appointments in other departments. Membership and access to space and resources in the Beckman Laser Institute and Medical Clinic (BLIMC) will also be provided.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in physical science or a related field from an accredited university. Successful candidates will be leaders who are committed to innovation in convergence optical sciences and can develop a vigorous externally funded research program, maintain a strong publication record, advise students, and provide outstanding teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
