The School of Physics operates within the Faculty of Science, UNSW and is one of the leading Physics departments in Australia. We have a strong teaching and research culture and our staff is conducting cutting edge research in astrophysics, physics, theoretical physics, acoustics, and biophysics. The School also hosts the ARC Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology and is a key participant in the ARC Centre for Future Low-Energy Electronics Technologies and the ARC Centre for Exciton Science. Currently the School of Physics has some 30 permanent academic staff, approximately 50 research staff and 15 support staff.



About the role

  • Level 3 (steps 1 through 4) plus 17% superannuation and leave loading
  • Fixed Term until date
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)


The role of senior lecturer will be expected to actively carry out research in theoretical physics, especially in the physics of the early universe; and teach a wide range of undergraduate physics subjects.


About the successful applicant


To be successful in this role you will:

  • A PhD in theoretical physics.
  • High impact publication record at an internationally recognised level with focus on the theoretical
  • physics of condensed matter systems especially magnetic materials, magnetism, and spintronics.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the capacity to work collaboratively and foster harmonious workplace relations.
  • Demonstrated capacity to establish an independent research group, and potential for leadership within the theoretical physics community.
  • A record of or demonstrated potential to attract external research funding.
  • Demonstrated experience to establish research collaborations at the national and international level.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising research students.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level and willingness to teach a wide range of undergraduate subjects.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
