About the role

  • Salary $94,514 plus 17% superannuation and leave loading
  • The position is full-time for 2.5 years (30 months)
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)

 

The Exoplanetary Science at UNSW research group within the School of Physics at the University of New South Wales invites applications for an Australian Research Council-funded postdoctoral Research Associate in in the science of exoplanets orbiting low-mass M-dwarf stars. The Research Associate will work with Prof. Chris Tinney on the analysis of FunnelWeb spectroscopy for a complete sample of ~80,000 southern hemisphere M-dwarfs, and then target samples of those M-dwarfs identified to transit by NASA’s TESS mission, with the Veloce spectrograph to measure planet masses and explore system architectures. The successful candidate will have experience in exoplanetary science and the techniques of precision Doppler spectroscopy. Experience in M-dwarf spectroscopy and the analysis of transit search data is highly desirable.

 

About the successful applicant

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics or related discipline, awarded prior to starting the position.
  • Clearly demonstrated potential (relative to opportunity) to carry out research in exoplanetary science, as evidenced by refereed publications and conference presentations.
  • Experience in acquisition and analysis of data for precision Doppler spectroscopy.
  • Experience in the study of M-dwarfs and their spectra is highly desirable.
  • Experience with the analysis of exoplanetary transit search data is highly desirable.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a research team, and to contribute to the broader intellectual environment of the School of Physics.
