PhD fellow in Condensed Matter Theory

Department of Physics, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in condensed matter theory commencing 1. April 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.  

 

Description of the scientific environment  

The project will be funded by a grant from the Danish Independent Research Council. The position will be part of a growing research environment at the condensed matter theory group at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen. Significant collaboration is expected to take place with other people including Prof. K. Flensberg, P. Hedegård, M. Rudner, J. Paaske, I. Eremin, P. Kotetes, P. J. Hirschfeld, and world-leading experimental STM, neutron and X-ray scattering groups. Project description  

The position is aimed at theoretical studies of magnetic and superconducting systems including cuprates, iron-based superconductors, and topological superconductors. Significant efforts will be centered on general interesting aspects of electronic interactions, superconducting pairing, novel disorder effects, and spin and charge fluctuations in unconventional superconductors. In addition, it is expected that several projects during the PhD studies will be centered on understanding new experimental data in collaboration with experimental groups.

Job description  

The position is available for a 3-year period and your key tasks as a PhD student at SCIENCE are:  

 

• To manage and carry through your research project  

• Attend PhD courses  

• Write scientific articles and your PhD thesis  

• Teach and disseminate your research  

• To stay at an external research institution for a few months, preferably abroad  

• Work for the department  

 

Formal requirements  

Applicants should hold an MSc degree in physics with good results and good English skills. As criteria for the assessment of your qualifications emphasis will also be laid on previous publications (if any) and relevant work experience.  

 

Terms of employment  

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.  

 

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.  

 

The starting salary is currently at a minimum DKK 322.642 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 43.219). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
