The post

The College wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant for a fixed term basis until December 2019 within Polymer Processing to support the work of Paul McCutchion and Professor Oana Ghita. This Innovate UK funded post is available immediately. You will be required to carry out material characterisation and analysis, mechanical testing, and polymer processing; including extrusion, injection moulding and 3D Printing, with training provided where required.

A significant proportion of the work will be working on a thermoplastic composite project,with industry partners and the National Composites Centre, define material formulations and carrying out testing on these materials, but the successful candidate will also be given the chance to learn a range of skills from a variety of other projects.

The post will include taking a lead on developing the research plan and identifying areas for more in-depth analysis where there is potential for greater learning and external publication.


About you

You will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically. There is potential for the role to lead to external publications where good data analysis and writing skills are needed.


You will be educated to degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research also methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. You will be able to display knowledge of materials science, material testing techniques and polymer processing methodologies, as well as the ability to learn quickly and apply theoretical knowledge in a practical environment.
