The International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory - INL (http://www.inl.int), was founded under an international legal framework to perform interdisciplinary research and to deploy and articulate nanotechnology for the benefit of society. INL aims to become the world-wide hub for nanotechnology addressing society’s grand challenges in Aging & Wellbeing and Mobility & Urban Living and developing a Safe & Secure Society.

SR&TD project specifications: INL participates in the following Scientific Research and Technological Development project (‘SR&TD project’) co-funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (‘FCT’) and FEDER:

(a)Name of the project:Functionalized graphene for quantum technologies.

(b)Reference number: PTDC/FIS-NAN/4662/2014

(c)Description:In this project we explore, from the theoretical stand point the use of point defects in graphene as quantum bits.

(d)Scientific Area:Quantum technologies, Condensed Matter Theory, Quantum computing.

Description of the functions and key primary responsibilities: The successful Candidate will work on the task 3 of the SR&TD project, and will be assigned the following working plan. Task 3 of the project involves the study of readout mechanisms for spin qubits in graphene. We shall undertake an exploration of readout mechanisms that are operative in other quantum computing architectures and study their application in the one studied in the project.

Supervision: The work plan will be developed at the INL under the scientific guidance of Dr.Joaquín Fernández-Rossier.

Eligibility conditions, required qualifications and expertise: Candidates must comply with the following requirements:

(a)Hold a MSc Degree in(Physics or related area);

(b)The position requires that the applicant be a Portuguese or an European Union citizen; a non-European Union citizen will be considered if residing in Portugal;

(c)Not having spent more than twelve months, during the three years immediately prior to the deadline for submission of applications, at the INL;

(d)Expertise/scientific knowledge in(condensed matter theory, computational and analytical methods).

Supporting Documents

Candidates must enclose the following supporting documents in pdf format:

(a) Cover letter

(b) Curriculum Vitae;

(c) Official transcripts of all relevant academic degrees;

(d) Copy of identification document;

(e) For non-EU Citizens residing in Portugal, documental evidence attesting the legal right to reside in Portugal.
