Postdoctoral Research Associate in Using Mathematical Modelling to Deconstruct Transcription

Grade 7: £32,236 - £39,609 p.a.

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to generate and analyse nascent transcription profiles suitable for mathematical modelling. The aim of this work is to define the key mechanisms underpinning transcription using a comprehensive mathematical model, based on the shape of transcription profiles which are different at different groups of genes and in mutants that affect transcription.


Applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil, in a relevant subject area and should have one or more published papers in peer reviewed journals. You should have evidence of collaboration and team work in a laboratory together with experience of generating nascent transcription profiles using NET-seq. Evidence of innovation of techniques to analyse transcription and experience of successfully applying RNA-FISH to a biological problem are essential as is having proven bioinformatics skills and experience of working with both yeast and mammalian cells in culture.


This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the BBSRC for up to 3 years in the first instance and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.


This position is graded on the University’s grade 7 scale. The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
