Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Skyrmion Thin Films

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Skyrmion-Carrying Thin Film Materials. The successful candidate will be based at Oxford University and the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus. The post is available for a fixed-term duration until 19 July 2022.

 

This project will involve thin film synthesis of skyrmion-carrying thin film materials, their structural and magnetic characterisation, as well as exploratory device research. The postholder will be primarily responsible for the advanced thin film growth facility. The postholder will also be expected to participate in beamtimes and projects within the Programme Grant on Skyrmions (www.skyrmions.co.uk or www.skyrmions.ac.uk).

 

Applicants should hold or be close to completion of a PhD/DPhil in experimental or applied physics, materials science or related field and have a strong background in thin film synthesis by both molecular beam epitaxy and magnetron sputtering, photolithography and device fabrication, magnetic X-ray scattering, the structural and magnetic characterisation of thin films, and a working knowledge of micromagnetic simulations.

 

The postholder will have the opportunity to teach and should have the ability to assist in the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.
