£36914 to £49553 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

We are recruiting three new academic staff to the School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham at Assistant Professor (Level 5).

Do you have excellent research ideas that fit with our School’s vision for the future and will help to drive change? Can you create and lead your own research group?  Do you have a commitment to inspiring and engaging students in the study of Chemistry?

If this sounds like you, then we are keen to hear from you.

Our goal at Nottingham is not just to recruit based on past achievements, but also on the potential someone shows for the future and we want to draw on the widest possible range of talents and backgrounds. We are looking for scientists that can work collaboratively with other members of the School and University community and our aim is to help you to build a world-leading portfolio of science through the support of external funding organisations, charities and industry.

We believe that a diverse and supportive environment, bringing different perspectives to our work and allowing people to blossom is the best platform for cutting-edge research and excellent teaching. We are looking for chemists who are excited to embrace our approach and can contribute to our efforts to enhance the scientific, teaching and cultural aspects of our School. We promote a healthy work-life balance (for example, by implementing flexible or part-time working) in an atmosphere in which staff are able to be themselves (for example, being openly LGBTQ+ or feeling confident to declare a disability within the School).

For these appointments we are keen to recruit particularly in specific research areas that map on to the needs of our research themes and also across the wider remit of sustainable chemistry. All candidates must be able to teach broadly across our undergraduate and Masters cohorts.

There is a four-stage application process for these positions.

  1. Expression of Interest
  2. Full Research Proposal
  3. Teaching Demonstration
  4. Interview

Our recruitment process has been designed to minimise unconscious bias in our reviewing of applications. If you do wish to contact us for any clarification at this stage please only communicate with

Our University has always been a supportive, inclusive, caring and positive community.
