Job Description

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Chemistry, beginning Fall 2019. This tenure-track position is being offered at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will be expected to achieve excellence in teaching and to participate in continued development of the UNT Dallas Life and Health Sciences Department, which offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. We are particularly interested in candidates with a wide range of teaching expertise with the ability to teach General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, and Environmental Chemistry.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Expectations for tenure track faculty at UNTD include excellent teaching, research, and service, resulting in contributions equivalent to a four-course load each semester. This workload expectation can be fulfilled through a combination of teaching, high quality research and scholarship, service, and program development. Faculty are also expected to participate in such service activities as curriculum development, student recruiting and advising, program assessment, and committee leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:


Ph.D. in Chemistry.

Evidence or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching.

Experience in teaching a range of chemistry courses including General Chemistry (and associated labs), Organic Chemistry (and associated labs), Biochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, and Environmental Chemistry.

Evidence or demonstrated potential for excellence in scholarship and community service.

Demonstrated effective written, verbal, and team-building communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:


Experience in mentoring undergraduate research students and developing a research program that fits well with department capabilities and needs.

Experience in developing a Chemistry program (minor and/or major) at a Primarily Undergraduate Institution.

Experience in developing and supervising laboratory programs for General and Organic Chemistry.

Experience in development/delivery of hybrid and online courses.

Experience as an advisor for student organizations (e.g. Chemistry Club).

Experience supervising adjunct faculty and student workers.

Academic experience working with a culturally diverse population.

Physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions
