DUTIES

The Department of Physical Sciences (Geology) is seeking to hire an outstanding candidate as an Assistant Teaching Professor. This position is offered as a one-year Limited Term Contract (LTC) beginning August 1, 2023. The successful candidate will have a commitment to quality undergraduate education.

Duties will include:

  • the instruction of a full complement of lectures and labs. Specifically, the successful candidate will instruct several sections of GEOL 1110 (both the lectures and labs), one section of GEOL 2050 (both the lecture and lab), and one lecture section of GEOL 2070. All together, the instructional assignment is a full annual workload of 24 credits.
  • holding office hours to be available to assist students and answer inquiries related to instruction.
  • managing grades for labs and lectures.
  • maintaining Moodle pages related to lecture and lab instruction.
  • participation in Geology outreach activities.
  • undertaking regular professional development activities.
  • participation in committee work at the Department, Faculty of Science, and University levels.
  • involvement in the intellectual and cultural life of the university and the community.
QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate must possess a minimum of a master’s degree in Geology or an equivalent discipline from a recognized university. A Ph.D. in Geology is preferred.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate students is required.
  • Prior university-level teaching experience in Geology and evidence of a strong record of teaching excellence are preferred.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
