Position Overview

The School of Physics invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Experimental Physics. The role will focus on enhancing experimental physics research and teaching at Trinity.

Research Areas of the School Include:

  • Photonics

  • Nanomaterials, Nanoelectronics, Nanomechanics, Nanotechnology

  • Electron Microscopy

  • Magnetism and Spin Electronics

  • Biophysics / Soft-Matter

The successful candidate:

  • Should be an experimental physicist in one of the above areas

  • Will initially join an established research team with access to existing facilities

  • Is expected to develop an independent research program and eventually their own research team

  • Will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervision, and mentoring

  • Should have an established research profile and a strong publication record


Post Details

  • Status: Tenure Track (5 years initially; permanency subject to tenure requirements)

  • Salary: Assistant Professor (109BN), €42,925 – €102,556 per annum (link)

  1. Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (including full publication list)

  2. Names and contact details of three academic referees

  3. Research Plan – 2 pages summarizing research experience and planned research for the next four years

  4. Teaching Statement – 1 page summarizing teaching experience and approach

  5. Two significant publications with explanations (150–300 words) of why/how they represent the candidate’s research

  6. Illustration of scholarship in energy science, photonics, nanoscience, magnetism and spin electronics, or biophysics/soft-matter

Note: If uploading multiple documents is problematic, the research and teaching plan may be combined into a single document.

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews and required to deliver a presentation
