Position description

The Department of Biological Chemistry is recruiting for an Assistant Project Scientist position in Professor Wohlschlegel’s laboratory.

The Wohlschlegel lab has an established research program centered on elucidating the role of novel E3 ubiquitin ligases in cell signaling and proliferation and its relevance to human disease. This position is focused on characterizing the role of the E3 ubiquitin ligase subunit FBXL5 in mediating the degradation of iron regulatory proteins 1 and 2 and how this key regulatory axis is controlled by different environmental and cellular cues.

The qualifications for this position are as follows:
•Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a closely related field of study.
•Experience related to biochemistry, molecular biology, and proteomic mass spectrometry are highly desirable.

Job responsibilities include supporting the PI in the design and execution of funded projects. This includes proteomics and biochemical experiments designed to elucidate the architecture and function of FBXL5-associtaed protein complexes. Responsibilities also include assisting the PI in study design, day-to-day tasks related to project management, data analysis, manuscript preparation and submission, and supervising graduate/undergraduate students/junior postdoctoral fellows working in this group.
