The Particle Astrophysics group at Penn State is seeking an Assistant Research Professor to work with Professor Stephanie Wissel on the radio detection of ultra-high-energy neutrinos through the BEACON, ANITA, PUEO, and related experiments. The Assistant Research Professor will be expected to conduct research for least one of these experiments and play a leading role in modeling and interpreting the signatures of air showers detected by all three experiments. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute actively to the simulations of detector sensitivities to cosmic ray and upgoing tau lepton air showers. Applications will be considered from Ph.D. physicists and astronomers with strong backgrounds in experimental particle astrophysics, cosmic ray physics, and related fields. A minimum of five years of related experimental experience, beyond Ph.D. training, is required. Experience with simulations of air showers and their radio emission, object-oriented programming, particle astrophysics data analysis tools is required. There may be opportunities to develop hardware relevant for these experiments. Applications must be submitted electronically and include a CV and brief statement of research interests. Applicants should arrange for three reference letters to be submitted to indicating the appropriate job number in the subject line. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of yearly renewal.
